Thank you for the 1914 cookery book. I have an older one for you!: 😸 First Edition of American Cookery American Cookery, by Amelia Simmons, is the first known cookbook written by an American, published in Hartford, Connecticut in 1796. Until then, the cookbooks printed and used in the Thirteen Colonies were British. Its full title is: “American Cookery, or the art of dressing viands, fish, poultry, and vegetables, and the best modes of making pastes, puffs, pies, tarts, puddings, custards, and preserves, and all kinds of cakes, from the imperial plum to plain cake: Adapted to this country, and all grades of life.” Good luck!

I really like the 1888 danish cookbook by mrs Nimb. It’s written with the price savvy housewife in mind, and it was one of the first cookbooks to introduce the international (primarily french) cuisine to the common danish cookbook-reader. One of the recipes is called “Ægte skildpaddesuppe” or “Potage de tortue à l’Anglaise”. Louise Nimb and her husband owned several restaurants, among them a restaurant in the amusement park Tivoli :D

If you have not already done one, how about an M.R.E. cookbook? M.R.E.s are Meals Ready to Eat for the US Army. Mostly freeze dried and/or canned (in a bag) types of food. You get an entree, crackers, cracker spread, desert, coffee, drink powder, chemical heater, matches, toilet paper, salt, pepper, tobasco sauce, etc. You combine various things from one or more M.R.E.s to make a new dish. M.R.E.s have 2 dozen different menu items each year, so the older the cookbook, the less likely it will have the items in current M.R.E.s. They can last for years, so ones you buy online can be from various menus. Still would be interesting to see James and Ebbers play with already cooked, shelf stable foods to make something new.
