    Any time gold leaf anything becomes involved in your foodstuffs, it's not a question of IF it's pretentious, but how pretentious it is. Usually, the answer to that is 'so pretentious that it's the sort of thing that makes old money peeps sneer at new money peeps'.

    In my experience with alcohol-free "wines" (religious-based abstinence from alcohol), there are drinks that are basically drier grape juices, or de-alcoholised wines. Given my utter lack of experience with alcohol, I like the first just fine, the latter tastes too fermented for me.

    As a Californian who has had this brand at a local farmer's market, the issue with the crispness might be the travel time to London. I've had the pineapple, which was perfect and incredible, and I think the lemon, which was kind of like a lemon head but less sweet.

    The chocolate 'cake' is actually very reasonably priced. It's basically just 2kg of premium chocolate. About 4€ for 100g of premium chocolate is not cheap, but reasonable imo.

    I would say the alcohol-free sparkling "wine" isn't pretentious. There are exceptionally few "fancy" alcohol-free drink alternatives; a soft drink or a mocktail just doesn't have the same sort of societal clout as a bottle of wine. For a wedding where not everyone drinks, a fancy alcohol-free beverage can really help people feel included.

    If you consume Gold it builds up in the Liver currently we do not have an organ capable of excreting Gold out of our body nor do we have an organ to digest it. My advice don’t eat it & Don’t Drink it. Filter your Gold Schlaeger thru your T-Shirt

    In the video it is said that Gianduia is normally ised as a filling, which is not the case! It is actually much more commonly consumed alone in the form of individual tiny blocks of chocolate called Gianduiotti. They are delicious and very commonly consumed in Turin (city where I come from).

    Argen oil is pretencious. 600 berber women benefiting, yeah right. Maybe giving them 20bucks a day is your idea of "benefiting". So your marketing is awefully vague especially when you are charging 28pounds for a 250ml oil. Srsly wtf.

    Hey guys, you got tricked with the argan oil. It's notoriously difficult to get a hold of, and is USUALLY watered out with olive oil. You basically need to be there when they make it to make sure you get the real thing. Also you need Moroccan bread (!!) and salt with the oil. ;)

    ...I say you got tricked because a lifetime with Moroccan argan oil tells me that's far too light to be 100% pure argan, which is often a deeper yellow and sometimes a bit cloudy. You're not meant to use a lot, but it does add a certain something to certain kinds of food. I also have it on good authority (from people who arent used to the taste) that it might be an acquired thing.

    In Morocco, I had toasted argan oil drizzled on a simple salad of diced tomato and cucumber with a squeeze of lemon juice. Absolutely delicious, and a unique nutty flavour.

    Once I bought a bag of dehydrated tomato slices that looked exactly the same as those, only the bag contained double or more that amount, and I finished them in less than a day. I frikkin loved snacking on them. I haven't seen them again where I am, though, so I've not had them again. I mention it only to keep in mind that while James might not think something is a snack, it can still be a decent snack.

    I love the idea of that chocolate cake thing! But I wouldn't feel confident in purchasing it as most chocolate is harvested by child slavery in Africa. Are you aware of where the cocoa is sourced by that product?

    Argan oil is lovely, especially when used to make amlou. I lived in Taroudannt (in the Souss Valley) for a while, which is not far from the only place that argan grows - all those pics of goats in trees you've seen? Those are argan trees! I used to have argan oil with my breakfast every morning to dip my khobz into. Gorgeous stuff! The trouble with it being brought to the West is that now it's priced out of reach for local people. Whereas not that long ago it was a staple food, because around 75% is now exported to the West, what's left is prohibitively expensive for the average Moroccan/Berber person. Yes, it's great that there are co-operatives that make sure the people working there get a wage (around $50 per month for full-time, sometimes backbreaking, work) but it's not good that people who've relied on it for centuries for food, cosmetics, and medicinal purposes have to now go without because of demand in wealthier countries. It's a bit of an ethical grey area, really, because we absolutely don't need it... but if we're conscious in our purchases, we can help put money into the pockets of those who rely on argan oil. Westerners are getting ripped off, too though because most cosmetics and toiletries (that claim it to be an ingredient) contain so little argan oil, it's completely ineffective (especially where hair care products are concerned). Unfortunately, there are also a lot of adulterated argan oils on the market which are usually cut with far cheaper ones, such as pomace, sunflower, etc. Bottom line - argan oil and products containing it should never be cheap or super-affordable!

    So good evo is 112£ to the liter????? You are either insane or the prices for oil in UK are stupidly high. You can get Laudemio Frescobaldi in Italy for 36£/liter...and that's super expensive. You can get cold pressed great oil for a looot less. You guys hit me up if you need evo.

    imo: 1. I don't see it as pretentious; argan oil isn't trying to be "the best oil ever" or revolutionize anything. Maybe I could see some of the marketing as hyping it up, but if I'm going to say that marketing is the cause of something being pretentious, then I'm just going to rant about marketing. I'd expect it to be more expensive, though, and thus questionably worth it. That said, super cool as I like hearing about Berber culture! 2. Eh. Marketing again (and I'm not huge on tomatoes). It's getting in a pretentious-ish territory I think, but I'm...I'm bothered when things...I don't like marketing. I want that canape topping though. 3. Pretentious. Gold in food is pointless, this is...no. No. It's fingernail polish. Ooooo edible fingernail polish...but yeah, no, mustard is mustard, it's not going to be the king of mustards. Yes, mustards have different uses, but this is just trying to be all special which is what pretentiousness is. 4. I don't like wine at all. Seems okay? Too expensive. 5. There is no way I could eat that. That's going to be crazy-sweet. Indulgent? Sure. Pretentious? No. That thing is CRAZY high-class cake. This isn't pretentious; this is work being put into something to elevate it. Probably way too expensive for me, but still...that money went into something real.
